Last summer, the Lakers sold for $10 billon.

This summer…$12 billion.

I shared my thoughts on the VC + PE sports takeover when Mark Walter bought the team last year.

And while big money ownership has its merits (see: Dodgers b2b champs), this is the flip side of the coin.

They may turn these “assets” into winners, but at the end of the day…its just business.

Imagine being investigated by the Feds for insurance fraud, so you liquidate THE LAKERS in a weekend deal to The President’s son-in-law’s brother.

Unreal.

Anyway…

The point of letter last year was: the Dr. Buss era of sports ownership is over.

And with that, we’ve lost a bit of the human touch in the process.

But this is one-way traffic, and it’s only getting crazier.

If I was a billionaire, I’d angle for sports ownership too.

Why?

We like our utilities and buisnesses commoditized, automated, and efficient.

We like our fun stuff, our leisure, and our entertainment Human-Proof.

I’ve said it ad nauseam here, so I’ll spare you the words.

But I like the way Jackson Dahl put it:

The Best Thing I Read This Week

One thing that occasionally occupies my limited brain activity (when it’s not the Roman Empire):

For all the wealth Rockefeller had, we ALL arguably live a life of greater comfort and luxury than he did.

And that’s only 100 years ago.

In that spirit, this is a great, great read….”Ordinary Abundance”:

The Birds

I’m sure you saw this legend’s viral school video.

In an S tier move, the Atlanta Hawks had him announce their NBA schedule.

You will not be disappointed:

A Melody Softly Soaring Through My Atmosphere

No playlist this week - but the wife threw this OG sadboi performance on yesterday and well, Ben Gibbard has still got it:
