Happy 4th my friends.
This is the Pinnacle of Summer and Freedom and Hot Dogs and Free Bird and Light Beer.
But this year is particularly special for a few reasons.
On our 250th anniversary, I find it fitting that the United States - a country founded on certain ideals, principles, and beliefs that no other country has - welcomes the world’s best to enjoy the world’s game on our shores.
In the lead-up the the World Cup, there was a ton of online chatter about the lack of enthusiasm, or the trepidation foreigners felt traveling here.
Turns out that was all BS and couldn’t be further from the truth.
It has been a revelation, and even better, a postcard in time of what this country is all about.
You have undoubtedly seen the scenes.
Just a few examples:
Japanese fans trying BBQ for the first time
Scotland supporters drinking all the beer in Boston
The Oranje army shipping a party bus from Amsterdam to Galveston
Messi bagging a hat trick in Kansas City - the Paris of the Plains
Mauricio frickin’ Pochettino
Not only does this make for great content, it makes for a great reminder.
There is a big, beautiful world out there where people of all kinds can come together and share life.
Real Life.
Offline.
Unscripted.
In the moment.
Sport has a funny way of doing that, and I’m glad it’s happening here - now - for the world to see.
Hell yea, America 🇺🇸
