Bet you thought I was gonna talk about The Odyssey.

No, despite my love for ancient history and all the chatter around the casting, cinematography, and scale. Chris Nolan didn’t send me a pre-screen.

But….

I finally watched Project Hail Mary this week.

And, I’ll admit it - I cried.

For the life of me, I can’t fully explain why or how the hell Ryan Gosling got me to care so much about a rock, but damn if this movie didn’t move me.

In ways that very few others have.

Yes - it is long (2:36), and at times even I rolled my eyes at the cheesiness of the first hour.

But the last 90 min absolutely “rocked” - and evoked emotions I almost forgot I had.

The ideas of fear, helplessness, the hero’s journey, friendship, sacrifice, and redemption are nothing new.

In fact, they are older than most things we know.

But sometimes a story is told in such a beautiful way that it strips you to your core.

The medium and the message are refreshing and rewarding. No green screens, no ulterior motive lurking in the script, no brain rot.

9.2/10

Go see it.

Oh, and the music’s pretty good too…
